About Us

"We went looking for a life upgrade.
Once we landed in New Zealand, we understood what that truly meant.
So grateful that we made the move."

For twenty-five years, we built a life in Colorado.
We raised our family in Boulder, built and sold a successful construction company, created lifelong friendships, and achieved many of the goals we had worked toward for decades. Life was better than we could have planned.
Then the world started feeling different and we found ourselves asking a different question:
What kind of life did we want for the next chapter?
Not what was expected
Not what was comfortable
What was truly right for our family.
As our sons approached teenage years, we began thinking less about careers and possessions and more about lifestyle, opportunity, freedom, and the environment in which we wanted them to become men.
We wanted calmer nervous systems
More connection
More playful adventure
More simplicity
And we wanted to live in a place where our family would thrive as a unit and as individuals.
Elton had left his birth place of New Zealand quite young to explore the world, and was ready to return to it with his family. For Chrissy, it represented possibility and the calmness that she craved.
Together, we made the decision to leave behind a life we loved in the United States and begin again in New Zealand.
It wasn't a decision we made lightly.
We didn’t fully understand the complexity of relocating a family, navigating immigration pathways, purchasing property, establishing financial structures, building trusted professional relationships, and creating a sense of belonging in an entirely new country. Each step came with their own unknowns and surprises. But after accomplishing every step of that journey, we are grateful that we did.
Today, our family calls Christchurch home.
That experience became the foundation of Aegis & Co.
We wish we would have had someone to guide us through our transition. Someone who truly understood the intricacies of life in the US, understanding the aspects that bring us comfort and joy while also understanding the desire for change.
Imagine arriving in a foreign country without speaking the language and being handed a trusted local who knows every neighborhood, every professional, every hidden opportunity, and every potential pitfall.
Someone whose sole purpose is to help you make better decisions and save you wasting time and money on trial and error.
That's Aegis.
We are not the architect, the lawyer, the builder, the accountant, or the immigration advisor.
We are the trusted advisor sitting beside you, helping coordinate the entire experience and ensuring your family's interests remain at the center of every decision.

Why we call ourselves Aegis
Aegis Has Greek and Latin Roots
English borrowed aegis from Latin, but the word ultimately comes from the Greek noun aigís, meaning “goatskin.” In ancient Greek mythology, an aegis was something that offered physical protection. It has been depicted in various ways, including as a magical protective cloak made from the skin of the goat that suckled Zeus as an infant, and as a shield fashioned by Hephaestus that bore the severed head of the Gorgon Medusa. The word first entered English in the 15th century as a noun referring to the shield or breastplate associated with Zeus or Athena. It later took on a more general sense of “protection” and, by the late-19th century, it had acquired the extended senses of “auspices” and “sponsorship.”
